YOGA FOR THE WORKING CREATIVE
Dawn Marie Strzepek
Take time to unplug and give yourself the mental space to breathe and be present. Yoga is not about being bendy or flexible but rather being present in your body in that given day regardless of distraction and learning to just be. Harnessing the power of living in the present is one of the most eye opening exercises you can commit to for mental health and clarity. Each day is different and each day presents its own challenges – yoga allows you to find a unique appreciation for the positive parts of each day.
Dawn Marie Strzepek found yoga in 2008 when working 80 hour work weeks designing and developing product in a high stress environment. A coworker recommended it repeatedly and finally she stepped into her first 90 minute hot yoga class. It was the first 90 minutes where the mind chatter stopped and the focus was inward. Today, when not teaching hot yoga, yoga sculpt, or leading 200 level teacher trainings, Dawn Marie is strategizing and designing in the corporate world and working her way up the ladder in retail branding. Yoga provides her the balance needed to refocus and take the time daily to make the choice to shift from stress to opportunity.
CALLIGRAPHY
Kristi Darwick
Calligraphy is enjoying resurgence in popularity, and for good reason; writing can add depth and meaning, while also serving as a design element. Beautiful hand-lettering can touch the spirit in a way that “perfect” fonts will not.
After having studied calligraphy and art throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada and Europe, Kristi Darwick segued from the corporate world to immerse herself in creative pursuits. A professional lettering artist, she also teaches for UC Riverside and leads programs and workshops in California and beyond. As President of the California Society for Calligraphy, Kristi works to build community through events for guild members and for the public. Recently, she led eighteen artists on a study tour in Amsterdam and Bruges.
