Adding Value to Design
No matter how cool your design looks, it may not work if it’s not telling the right story to the right audience in a clear and meaningful way that’s aligned with the business. In this Thinkshop, you’ll learn a systematic approach for asking the right questions, serving as a strategic partner to your clients, forming strategic messages and considering them in your design. Discussions will include case studies, key strategic considerations and the opportunity to develop messaging in a hypothetical client scenario.

Let There Be Truffles
Monica Stout – Truly Scrumptious Cakes
TRUFFLES!! We all love to eat them, now Monika will share the fun of making them.
Monika spent years as a graphic designer, working at a drafting table with T-square and triangle, assembling the then-complex layers of commercial art. But with the move to computers, she missed working with her hands to create something beautiful. She took a cake decorating class with the aim of making original cakes for her children. Once she began, however, she realized that this is what she was
born to do!
She creates each of her Truly Scrumptious Cakes as an individual work of art in cake, icing, fondant and sugar. Her goal is to make each one as unique as the person for whom it was created. Monika wants each cake to surprise and delight the client and, of course, to have their guests exclaim, “This is truly the most scrumptious cake I’ve ever tasted!”

Fun with Letterpress
Tim Butler is a masterpiece. Some call him the old, grizzled one around the press because of his vast knowledge and experience, and he takes that as task to continue to teach the lessons he learned from the craftsmen he spent so many hours with growing up. It’s not so much about the final product as it is the process; Tim is in it for the machinery, and the feeling he gets when working with it. Tinkering on his 19th century equipment is a Sunday hobby, and he believes when work becomes play, we’ve truly made this life what it’s meant to be.
As a San Diego native, Tim has been around the creative and music scene for longer than he likes to admit, and takes genuine pride in what he creates in all ways creative. Whether it’s rippin’ on bass with Sha Na Na on the weekends or printing another hundred plates on press Tuesday at midnight, he does it with his whole heart.
